Industry 4.0 Revolution: What an Industry 4.0 Consultant can change in a Company

Industry 4.0 Revolution: What an Industry 4.0 Consultant can change in a Company

Industry 4.0 is the name given to the current progression of data and automation exchange in the production of merchandise for use or sale using machines, tools, etc. It consists of the internet of things (IOT), cognitive computing and cloud computing. It is also called a “smart factory”. Through this technology Cyber-physical systems co-operate and communicate with humans in real time.

Some companies try to change themselves according to the new technologies, whereas others do not educate themselves on the new developments and miss out on the opportunity to lead the transfiguration. They do not transform themselves to the changing tech landscape. A company that has started on this journey of transformation can compete effectively in the market and improve costs and profits.

To fulfill the rising expectation of a customer, an intelligent supply and a digitally integrated chain can enable an unequalled level of collaboration. A group of intellectuals are the key business drivers behind this technology and they can change the industry to an unprecedented level.

Industry 4.0 is a technology through which automation and computers will work in tandem in an entirely innovative way, with robotics linked via remote systems to computers powered with machine learning algorithms that can understand and manage the robotics with very little management from human operators.

Industry 4.0 helps in creating a “smart factory” with the modular framed smart cyber-physical systems, monitor physical processes and make suburbanized decisions.

How did the term Industry 4.0 originate?

The term industry 4.0 originated from a high-tech strategy project of the German government, which backs the computerization of manufacturing processes. The term “Industrie 4.0” was reinstated in 2011 at one of the largest trade fairs in the world called the Hannover Fair. In October 2012, the Working Group on Industry 4.0 laid out a set of implementation strategies to the German officials. The Industry 4.0 workgroup members are considered to be the founding members and main people behind Industry 4.0

    Four design principles:

The industry 4.0 has four design principles that support companies in developing and framing industry 4.0 scenarios.

    • Compatibility: The ability of connecting and communicating people via internet of things and atomization process to a large extent.
    • Information Systems: The ability of information transparency to create a practical term for all purposes by implementing digital plant models to higher value context information.
    • Assistance Systems: The ability of technical assistance systems to support humans physically by conducting a range of tasks.
    • Cyber Physical Systems: The ability of decentralized decisions and performing their tasks independently.

The key promise of the “industry 4.0” is fascinating as well as striking. It is the process to feed the industry with a revolution of advancement of digital systems. The advantages of an Industry 4.0 model could overshadow the concerns put forward by many production facilities. In very risky working environments, the health and safety of human workers could be enhanced to a considerable level.  Supply chains could be more easily controlled when there is data at every level of the manufacturing and delivery chain. Computer control could result in much more consistent and safe productivity and output.  And the results for many businesses could be improved revenues, profits, and market share.

The issue, then, is not if Industry 4.0 is coming, but when. As with big data and other business advancements, we suspect that the early adopters will reap the rewards for their courage and foray into this new technology, and those who shun change, risk becoming left behind and irrelevant.
